Here at Carlin Chiropractic we recognise how lucky we are to have so much, when there are many around the world struggling to attain so little. To reflect this, we are donating 10% of our profits between 14th – 24th December to protecting children from child labour, trafficking and other forms of exploitation.

Help vulnerable child labourers with your Christmas donation
Child labour is mentally and physically dangerous. Not only does it negatively impact a child’s education prospects, it also harms their long-term development. Child labour can also lead to a child being enslaved, trafficked, sexual exploited or being put to work in very hazardous conditions. As a result, these children are at risk of disease, injury and even death.
Child labour is defined as employment that deprives a child of 5 to 11 years old of their childhood, dignity and prospects. Not only is the work dangerous, child labourers are often expected to work 14-21 hours per day.
Child labourers are exploited in such a way that makes them susceptible to abuse. The families of child labourers are often powerless to change their circumstances given that they are in a cycle of poverty. In some horrid cases, child labourers work under the threat of violence or death, this can be a significant problem when a child falls ill. Workplace injuries can be truly frightening, such as a loss of body parts.
Children are often thrust into work without choice instead of being willing participants who are at an appropriate age to work. Those willing participants are usually in a position to balance work with school and their social life, while developing the necessary skills to become an adult.
