How a Chiropractor can help with your headaches

How a Chiropractor can help with your headaches

By Chiropractic Care, Lifestyle, Wellness Care

Over the decades, Chiropractic care has grown tremendously in popularity. People now see that their local Chiropractor can help with more than just back pain or joint issues. If you suffer from chronic headaches, tension headaches or migraines, it’s time to visit the expert team at Carlin Chiropractic. We’ll discuss your medical history, find out the type of headaches you are suffering from, and then find the cause. You can rely on a Chiropractor for headaches instead of pain-relieving medication.

Spine misalignment might be the cause

A potential cause of your headaches could be that your spine is out of alignment, and extra stress is being placed on your nervous system. Visiting Carlin Chiropractic for gentle Chiropractic techniques may help alleviate your recurring headaches. Dr Simon or Dr Tayla can assist with realigning your spine to help eliminate, or reduce the severity of your headaches.

When your bodily functions return to normal, there is less stress and tension. As a result, your headaches may subside. You may have an occasional headache but, these might be the result of dehydration or diet choices, and nowhere near as painful as a misaligned spine.

Chiropractic care for migraines

Chronic back and neck pain can result in severe migraines. If you experience debilitating back and neck pain, Chiropractic care may help reduce the amount and severity of your migraines. Although environmental factors and dietary issues can cause migraines, a major cause is tension issues. This tension can be a byproduct of limited physical activity, poor ergonomics, and incorrect posture – these adversely impact your upper back and neck, causing migraines.

When you see a Chiropractor for headaches, the experts can perform joint manipulation to reduce the tension levels in your neck and back. Some may recommend soft tissue massage, shiatsu or acupuncture.

Results may vary, but here’s what to expect from a Chiropractor

If you suffer from headaches or migraines, below are some of the results you may experience from seeing a Chiropractor who uses gentle Chiropractic techniques.

  • Decreasing of nerve irritation
  • Restoration of correct communication by your nervous system to the rest of the body
  • Restoration of normal blood flow
  • Reduction of tension in your muscles
  • Help to identify the trigger of your headaches or migraines – then prevent them from occurring or reduce the frequency of occurrence

Carlin Chiropractic can help!

After a session with your Chiropractor for headaches, you may experience immediate relief. The longer you have had headaches, no matter which type, the longer it may take for you to find relief. Most of the time you will need to see your Chiropractor for a series of appointments as part of a health care plan.

One thing to note is that everyone responds differently to Chiropractic treatment. Regardless, it’s time for you to stop treating your issues with over-the-counter medications and schedule an appointment with Carlin Chiropractic. Reach out to us today!

Spine Care Tips – Looking After Your Back

By Chiropractic Care, Diagnostic Imaging

Seeing a Chiro Perth locals love is the best thing you can do when it comes to looking after your back. There is the misconception that lying flat in bed for days will help you recover from back issues, but that is not the case – your back needs movement to stay flexible. Not moving enough can add to your problems and we have some spine care tips for you to best help you live a life of your own design.

Turn to a team who can help you

Over 80% of Australians experience back pain in their lifetime and it can be truly debilitating. Back issues have a range of different causes, including but not limited to:

  • Not moving enough – A sedentary lifestyle is not ideal for back pain issues
  • Moving too sharply – When playing sport, or working in the yard, it’s best to stretch first before making any sudden movements such as serving a tennis ball or pull-starting the lawnmower
  • Twisting – Especially while lifting can cause serious back pain, be sure to use proper technique
  • Accident trauma – Be gentle with your body, especially if you’ve been in a car crash or have experienced any other form of accident trauma
  • Sporting injuries – Be sure to warm up, many back injuries are caused when amateur athletes forget to perform a proper stretching session
  • A trapped nerve – Nerve compression syndrome is a medical condition caused by direct pressure on a nerve, which can happen along the spine
  • A slipped disc – Your spinal column is made up of vertebrae, and these bones are cushioned by discs which absorb shocks from daily activities like walking, lifting, and twisting
  • Disease – Such as ankylosing spondylitis

The best approach is to have a team of Perth Chiro experts helping you. Our professionals will look at your medical history, then carry out diagnostic imaging to assess what is causing your ailments and then compile a treatment plan to best help you recover.

Spine Care Tips – Looking After Your Back

Chiropractic care is essential in looking after your back. Below are some spine care tips to help you stay on top of your health:

1. Keep track of your medical history

Make sure you provide your Chiropractor with your most up-to-date medical records and history. Your Chiropractor will ask questions about your overall health and you should answer with as much detail as possible. Some questions will cover general medical information, others will pertain to your back pain, such as how it started, what makes it feel better, other symptoms you might be experiencing, and whether your issues were caused by an accident or injury.

2. Diagnostic Imaging is crucial

Your Chiropractor will look at all factors that are impacting your ailments, such as your posture, the location of the pain, whether you can move freely, if there is numbness anywhere, while also determining the overall strength of your body. Carlin are a Chiro Perth locals turn to for comfort, and will perform many tests to help you get back in shape.

3. Stay on top of your exercises

Your Perth Chiro treatment extends beyond your adjustment sessions and time in the practice. Your Chiro will assign you important exercises to do at home as part of looking after yourself. Ignoring these exercises can slow down your recovery and increase the chance of experiencing recurring back pain problems. With regular sessions and following your Chiro’s advice, you can improve your strength, reduce pain and enhance your range of motion.

Back to School Checklist from the Australian Chiropractors Association

By Children

It’s that time of the year again! For most Western Australian kids, January 31 is Back to School day! Thanks to an initiative from the Australian Chiropractors Association, Carlin Chiropractic are proud to promote the ‘Back to School Health Checklist’. As millions of children across the country return to their classrooms to learn, play and socialise – it’s important for them to value their health and wellbeing in the classroom, all year round. The focus is too often placed upon mental and social development, while health and wellbeing can sometimes fall by the wayside.

About the Back to School Checklist

It’s all well and good to have a checklist of stationery and text books for the school year, but what about the factors that impact a child’s health and wellbeing? The Australian Chiropractors Association ‘Back to School Health Checklist’ is a tool to instill healthy habits into your child’s everyday routine. Below is a summary of the key items.

Backpack

  • Children are encouraged to make use of lockers if available and should only pack the essentials in order to lessen the load
  • Heaviest items should be closest to the spine
  • All zips should be done up all the way
  • Secure the sternum straps and waist straps to fortify the load
  • Always wear both straps when carrying the backpack
  • A backpack should only be worn for a maximum of 30 minutes

Posture

We focus so intently on how an adult’s posture is some important when using a computer at work or in the home. What we fail to recognise is the amount of time a child spends sitting at a desk. It’s only natural that your child maintains good posture. Below are the recommendations.

  • Head in neutral position in line with the torso
  • Back supported by chair
  • Sit up straight with the back supported
  • Elbows close to body with an angle of 90-120 degrees
  • Knees bent at 90 degrees
  • Leg uncrossed
  • Feet flat on the ground

Screen time

Devices are so commonly used in the classroom for learning. Keep recreational screen use outside of the classroom to a maximum of 2 hours per day. Make sure your child enjoys plenty of non-screens related activities.

Nutrition

A nutritious diet is important at any age. Staying alert in the classroom, active in the playground and sporting field are assisted with a balanced diet including fruit, veggies and plenty of water.

Exercise

Physical education, school and weekend sports are essential for a child’s health and wellbeing. An hour of physical activity should be included in a child’s daily routine.

Handling Concussion in Sport: Carlin Chiropractic

Handling Concussion In Sport

By Concussion

While many sporting contests and training sessions are completed with no occurrence of injury or incident, the odd hit-out can result in the opposite. There are many different kinds of situations that may arise during a match or training, and any part of the body can be injured. While the road to recovery after tearing an anterior cruciate ligament can be arduous and a test of one’s resolve, recovery from a head injury can take even longer. The head is sacrosanct in many sports and when injuries do occur, concussion management should be held paramount. In this blog post from the expert team at Carlin Chiropractic, you will learn how to handle concussions when they occur.

Coaches should be educated when it comes to handling concussion in sport

As a coach, you should not only educate yourself with regards to the skills, tactics and discipline of your chosen sport, but also with managing injuries. It’s important that you understand all the signs of concussion, the symptoms, and after recovery, what needs to be done in the way of concussion management.

When a person experiences concussion, it can be the result of a blow or jolt to the body. This can cause the head to move quickly back and forth, with the brain bouncing around inside the skull. Concussion is extremely dangerous and can be caused by:

  • A simple blow to the head from a ball
  • A player’s head hitting the ground, after being slung in a tackle, or falling from height
  • Being accidentally hit by a teammate or opposition player
  • Travelling at speed and a player’s head hitting a solid surface

However, concussions can also occur when the brain accelerates or decelerates in the skull rapidly – not just as a result of direct head trauma.

What are the red flags of concussion?

When an athlete experiences trauma to the head, they are likely to lose consciousness and experience one or more of the symptoms below:

  • Neck pain or tenderness
  • Double vision
  • Weakness or tingling/burning in arms or legs
  • Severe or increasing headache
  • Seizure or convulsion
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Deteriorating conscious state
  • Vomiting
  • Increasingly restless, agitated or combative

Act quickly

As a coach of any level of sport, it is important to identify concussion quickly and remove the affected athlete from play. In professional sport, SCAT5 (Sports Concussion Assessment Tool 5) is used as a concussion assessment tool, and must only be used by medical professionals. In amateur sport, CRT5 (Concussion Recognition Tool 5) is used for evaluating concussion. But these tests should not be used to categorically make or exclude a concussion diagnosis.

After assessment, if a player is suspected of having concussion and medical professionals are not immediately available to assist, the athlete should be referred to a medical facility for urgent assessment.

The basic principles of first aid (DRSABC) should be followed. Do not move the athlete (exceptions can be made for airway management) unless medical professionals such as paramedics, nurses or doctors are on site. An athlete’s helmet should not be removed and assessment for spinal cord injury is critical and should be carried out.

Handling concussion via Chiropractic Care

Treating concussion is vitally important and the expert team at Carlin Chiropractic provide concussion management services. We provide a drug-free alternative for treating concussion issues and restoring overall balance to an athlete’s body and mind.

Contact us today and book an appointment if you think you or any of your loved ones might have a concussion.

Massage Therapist Perth: Carlin Chiropractic

Natural Healing With Massage Therapy

By Massage Therapy

For most people, good health begins with dieting and ends at exercising – they completely overlook the importance of adequate relaxation. You might think that eight hours of sleep is all you need to recharge your mind and body, but this is rarely true. Releasing tension from your muscles is where true relaxation lies. Sessions with a skilled massage therapist Perth locals love is a good start!

How is Myofascial Release Better Than Regular Massage?

Unspecialised massage involves manipulating your muscles, whereas myofascial treatments can promote natural healing. The benefits of massage therapy last only a couple of days because it targets the muscles alone, which tend to quickly bounce back into their original stressed state. On the other hand, myofascial release massage creates a long-lasting change because it targets the fluid-gel connective tissue called fascia, in addition to your muscles.

We often hear massage therapists talk about ‘knots’ in our muscles. These knots are hardened fascia subjected to severe tension. At Carlin Chiropractic, you can experience a long-lasting release of this tension with our calming massage therapist Perth locals recommend. Our treatments empower the body’s own self-corrective mechanism and might be just the thing you need, especially if your doctor has been unable to diagnose anything based on your X-ray, MRI, or CT scan results because fascia is not detectable in these tests.

How Can Traditional Japanese Shiatsu Restore Balance?

We undergo different kinds of stress during the day – some physical, some mental. Shiatsu can help relieve both, in four to six sessions. It can also help you eliminate muscle tightness, constant headache, back pain, period cramps, pregnancy complications, and so much more. With Carlin Chiropractic, you can discover a skilled massage therapist Perth residents have tried, tested, and loved for relieving all these ailments.

Shiatsu takes you into a deep state of relaxation and balances the energy flowing through your body, while you’re fully clothed and lying on a soft mat close to the earth. Our therapists ensure that every session is tailored to meet your needs and that you experience the best relaxation massage Perth has to offer.

The Benefits of Remedial and Therapeutic Massage

After exploring the techniques of myofascial release and shiatsu massage, it’s now time to look at some of their benefits. Not only do these therapies help you relieve pain, but they also promote the overall wellbeing of your body promoting healthier digestion, reducing the levels of stress, and increasing your stamina for physical work and exercise.

However, a remedial massage ends up delivering the best results only when performed by a well-trained professional who knows how to understand the unique needs of each person’s body. At Carlin Chiropractic, we offer just this – professionalism and dedication, whether you are visiting us for a minor chiro-related concern or the most relaxing shiatsu massage Perth can provide.

Book in with a Massage Therapist Perth locals can vouch for!
